With the holiday season around the corner and plenty of drinking to celebrate family gatherings, another year gone by and professional and personal success, you may want to think before your drink. Have you ever wondered how many calories come in that mojito or glass of wine? The Center for Science in the Public Interest is hoping to change the fact that most alcohol bottles and beverages do not contain food labels. One of the reasons Americans are struggling with their waistlines, is the excess in calories found in sodas, alcohol, fruit drinks and energy drinks. We do not perceive a feeling of fullness after drinking calories, so we are basically adding empty calories into our daily intake without the innate sense to cut something else out because we are full. Food labels would not only help with outlining the number of calories per serving, but also help those allergic to nuts and dairy (items often found in cocktail mixes). Some companies are boasting calorie content because they want consumers to know their product is lower in calories or carbohydrates.
Until we have a clear understanding of food labels on alcohol beverages, check out the guide below to know if you want to fill up or find an alternative.
