A new client I have inspired me to write about great cities for walking.   My client is 6 1/2 months pregnant and ready to train for one of the Susan G. Komen 3-day breast cancer walks this fall once the baby arrives.  Talk about dedicated to a cause!   I have always thought that a 3-day walk would be an amazing experience.  Hopefully someday, I will be able to complete a walk to honor so many women who have fought or are still fighting cancer.   There are many resources if you decide to walk, but the biggest "step" is to walk, walk and walk some more.  Read below to see if your city made the top 10 list of America's best fitness walking cities.

This list is compliments of IDEA Fitness Journal based and is based on results from the American Podiatric Medical Association and Prevention magazine survey :

1.  Madison, WI.  As a graduate of UW-Madison, I can attest that pedestrians rule.
2.  Austin, TX. There are 50 trails that are 1/4 mile to10 miles long.
3.  San Francisco, CA.  This city boasts the most parks per square mile!
4.  Charlotte, NC.  A recent survey found that 40% of residents walk for exercise.
5.  Seattle, WA.  Great views inspire walking for miles.
6.  Henderson, NV.  With an average of only 4.5 inches of rain per year, never worry about needing an alternative to walking outdoors.  7.  San Diego, CA.  Plenty of routes on the beach, desert and mountain.
8.  San Jose, CA.  An average temperature of 61 degrees is the ideal walking temperature.
9.  Chandler, AZ.  The Paseo Trail has 6.5 miles of zero traffic walking.
10.  Virginia Beach, VA.  The boardwalk and low crime rate here make it safe and fun to walk this city.

Even if your city is not listed here, find ways to get out and walk!
