Dreaming About Sleep

Wednesday, July 9th It was a great first 4th of July for our daughter until it was time to sleepover at Grandma and Grandpas. She fell asleep early and stayed asleep through fireworks until about 1am. All the food, shushing, rocking and singing would not put this peanut back to bed so at 3am we decided to drive home. Needless to say it was 4am before we got her settled to bed and asleep but at least she was SLEEPING. In the last week we have also started sleep training so I feel like there is hope for me to sleep again soon. For now, however, I like to day dream about sleep. I know that my time will come again.....someday. I recently saw an article in Health magazine that stated too much or too little sleep can wreak havoc on your metabolism. No wonder new moms struggle to get back into pre-baby shape! According to the article, short sleepers getting only 5-6 hours of sleep per night were 27% more likely to become obese, had 124% more body fat and were 35% more likely to gain 11 pounds compared to those that slept the "just right" amount. Long sleepers getting 9-10 hours of sleep per night were 21% more likely to become obese, had 94% more body fat and were 25% more likely to gain 11 pounds than the "just rights". What amount was just right? Researchers found 7-8 to hours to be the magic amount. I am looking forward to getting back into the "just right" category very soon.
