The experts weigh in on a few more topics about the best foods to boost your beauty.....(this blog entry is a continuation from Tuesday's blog).
For Puffy Eyes: Diuretics like parsley and asparagus can reduce bloating while potassium rich foods and citrus foods help maintain a good balance of fluids. Cayenne pepper can boost circulation and improve lymphatic drainage around the eyes. Avoid consuming salty foods and preserved foods (deli meat and cheese) which leach water out of the skin. Yeast in baked goods and alcohol can also be a problem according to Dr. Brandt.
For Thin Hair: According to Dr. Brandt, dark greens and meat can help your hair grow faster and stronger. Olive oil helps hair hold onto moisture while foods high in protein like eggs and beans are important for healthy hair growth. Nuts, like almonds, which are high in zinc can also help soothe the scalp. Foods to avoid include supplements that have high doses of vitamin A as this may worsen your condition.
For Brown Spots: Your best bet is proper sunscreen to avoid sun damage. Foods powerful in antioxidants that can fight sun damage are helpful. Go for dark chocolate, pomegranates, green tea and broccoli. Foods to avoid include alcoholic beverages (especially beer) and processed foods that tend to weaken our immune systems and make our skin sensitive to sunlight.
For Dull Skin: Dr. Perricone suggests that eating berries will help make your pores look smaller. Foods rich in green and orange colors are high in vitamin A and great for making skin cells shed faster (bye-bye dull skin, hello bright, radiant complexion). Avoid too many spices, garlic and onions that can make you red in the face if overdone. Also stay away from sugar, caffeine and fried foods which can interfere with nutrient absorbtion according to Blum.
In general, it pays to eat a well-balanced diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and antioxidants. Avoid too much sugar, caffeine, fried foods and alcohol and your hair and skin will look fantastic!
