Looking for a potent little red food that can help you fight infection? In honor of Valentine's Day I wanted to highlight a food other than chocolate for your health (remember the dark stuff has the most antioxidants and health benefits) and thought cranberries were a perfect pick.
Many women know that cranberry juice can be extremely helpful in warding off urinary tract infections, but most of us don't know that cranberries and cranberry juice may help fight off ovarian cancer. Over 20,000 women are diagnosed with this type of cancer every year. A recent study published by Rutgers University reports that these powerful berries may significantly boost the effectiveness of cancer drugs along with preventing the growth and spread of some cancer cells.
If you know anyone battling ovarian cancer, encourage them to consume the berries or a glass of juice daily. Make sure the juice has at least 27% cranberry content to avoid excess sugar which is damaging to the immune system. It just might help us all win the fight!
