Ok, really, just 10 minutes a day can really improve your health?  Yes, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Hypertension.  This is great news for millions of Americans who feel that one of the biggest reasons they cannot exercise is that they just do not have enough time.  Well, after reading this blog, you may not be able to use this excuse anymore!

Researchers at Indiana University analyzed the length of various exercise bouts and how blood pressure was affected.  What they found was that taking just four short walks a day might be better for you than taking a longer walk in terms of controlling high blood pressure.  Twenty participants with hypertension were split into two groups, one participating in four 10 minute walks and the other walking 40 minutes straight.  Although both groups lowered blood pressure by the same amount, the group taking the shorter walks had lower blood pressure longer after their walking sessions (11 hours) compared to the group taking longer walks (7 hours).

Cardio is not the only thing that can be done easily in 10 minutes.  Check out the following link to see a great 10 minute workout by Keli Roberts, a Los Angeles pesronal trainer, to tone the entire body including abdominals.

Hopefully this will motivate people who do not feel like they have enough time to do one long walk during the day.  A 10 minute walk in the morning, at lunch and after work can be a great way to get a routine going in the New Year.
