Is there a way to have exercise available in the comfort of your own home 24/7?  You mean besides that old piece of exercise eqiupment acting as an over-sized hanger in the corner of your basement?  Yes, there is a way to have access to an impressive list of workout routines without leaving your house!  Body by Jake author Jake Steinfeld, has created a channel that offers over 75 workouts including Pilates, yoga and sculpting.  The channel is available to over 14 million homes in the U.S. that have digital cable from Comcast or Time Warner.  The routines get updated monthly and are taught by gurus like Rodney Yee.  There is a website: www.exercisetv.com where you can check out more information.

Before diving into a home workout, I would advise working with a personal trainer a couple of times to make sure that you have the basics down in terms of form.  Most people perform squats and lunges incorrectly.  Work with a Pilates or yoga instructor to learn important body placement and concepts of each method.  Although working out at home is convenient, it can do more harm than good if you are performing the exercises incorrectly.

While stretching into your downward dog and sweating through the ab series in that Pilates or yoga class at home, make sure that you have a proper mat.  www.powerpilates.com has superb Pilates mats from airex and www.huggermuger.com or www.lululemon.com (just love the clothes here, too) have great yoga mats.  Even better, get an eco-friendly yoga mat from either company which are made without any latex, rubber or toxic plastics so they will break down easliy in a landfill.  They are easy to clean and come in groovy colors, too.  Huggermuger sells an Earth Elements Mat for $38.95 and Lululemon has an Eco Mat for $35-$39 based on thickness.

Now...get your remote, get off the coach and move.  No more excuses about not being able to get to the gym!
