Tuesday, March 27th I always like to find one new adventure to try every year. As part of my life list, I like to keep track of things I want to do and annually pick one thing to conquer (or at least try!). I started off the year with zip-lining in Costa Rica and hope to add more to the list by 2008. In my opinion, Spring is the best time of year to try new adventures, especially for us winter cave-dwellers in the midwest. Health Magazine gives us all some great ideas for our Spring fix through outdoor adventures at some retail giants across the United States. REI Outdoor School in northern California and on the East Coast offers great day-long courses in hiking, cycling and kayaking. These classes start at only $25....what a bargain! The East Coast also is home to classes offered by L.L. Bean. They have a Walk-On adventures class that lasts 2 hours. Topics for the adventure include kayaking, snow-shoeing and archery. New topics are available depending on the seasons. Finally, EMS has a groovy class called geocoaching adventures. Think The Goonies movie, excpet this time the treasure hunt has a digital map (groups of 10 or fewer only $35). EMS also has 2 hour hiking classes for only $25. There is also a cool new way to tour both the Big Apple and Windy City. NYC Run and Chicago Run take groups of joggers on guided runs to view the cities' sites for about $50. Runners will get T-shirts, water, snacks and can pick the appropriate route for their skill level (everything from 2 miles to 12 miles). Ditch your car, beat the traffic and have fun.
