Ahhh, tis season of ghosts, goblins and sweet treats!  While you are handing out candy to the little pirates and bumble bees this week, follow these tips for a healthier Halloween.

1.  Remember to buy your least favorite Halloween candy to give out to the neighborhood kids.  Your temptation to eat the leftovers will be greatly diminished.  You will not feel guilty tossing the leftovers!
2.  Shop the NaturalCandyStore.com for treats that are void of artificial colors& flavors, hydrogenated oils and more.  The organic bite-size chocolates look mighty tasty along the pomegranate Pure Fruit Fun Lollipops.  You can even find gluten free and vegan candy on the website.  One of the candy bags was recently chosen as a gift for celebrities at the World Music Awards.
3.  If you are looking for the chocolate bars with the least amount of calories, stick with Milky Way or 3 Musketeers instead of the bars filled with caramels, peanut butter and nuts.  Hungry Girl's website reports that: A Milky Way Mini has about 38 calories and 1.4g fat, and a Fun Size one has 75 calories and 3g fat. A 3 Musketeers Mini has just 24 calories and 0.7g fat, and the Fun Size version contains 63 calories and 2g fat.
4.  Research shows that you may be better off going with the regular size candy bars instead of the snack size.  It looks like you will take in more calories and fat by eating the real thing compared to the snack size pieces.
5.  To avoid feeling deprived, keep a few (not a whole bag full) of some of your favorite sweet treats on hand.  Check out the Cocoa Via bars, Adora chocolate calcium supplements, pumpkin flavored granola bars, pumpkin flavored low-fat frozen yogurt (Edy's), sip on a warm apple cider or other pumpkin flavored beverage, or nibble on  tootsie roll pops.

Happy Haunting!!
