Friday, July 18th More Olympians, like track star Sanya Richards, are using Pilates to get into optimal shape. Richards has been dubbed "the fastest 400- meter woman in U.S. history" at the young age of 23. She takes Pilates twice a week with Wendy LeBlanc- Arbuckle who created the CoreConnections program at the Pilates Center of Austin. LeBlanc- Arbuckle noticed that Richards seemed compressed on her left side and taught her how to distribute her weight evenly through her body and feet for a more fluid stride. I truly think Pilates is the best tool for teaching body awareness, uniform development of the muscles and a balanced body! As reported by PilatesStyle magazine, Richards says that she also does not hold her breath anymore thanks to Pilates. Pilates is so crucial to her training, Richards will be taking LeBlanc-Arbuckle with her to Beijing. Very cool! Other Olympic athletes using Pilates include Kerri Walsh (professional volleyball player) and Landon Donovan (L.A. Galaxy soccer star). Must of us are not headed to Beijing, but it's still a good idea to keep your core in Olympic shape with Pilates!
