There is a great new exhibit that opened at the Minnesota Children's Museum in St. Paul highlighting the benefits of yoga and activity for kids.  According to Yoga Journal Magazine, kids that may feel a little shy or are not able to participate in sports can engage in yoga, climbing, dancing and bicycling at the Run, Jump, Fly! Adventures in Action Exhibit.  A spokesperson for the museum said the traveling exhibit is a great way for kids to experience movement.   At Power Pilates, we are always encouraging our clients to move as we know that movement heals!  With childhood obesity on the rise, this exhibit will hopefully expose many kids to activities and how much fun they can have while staying fit..

What a great way for kids to learn balance, strength and coordination by pedaling a stationary bike that simulates pedal-powered flight through the sky?  There is even a spot to practice surfing and  snowboarding with the help of video equipment.  Kids can also learn a yoga sequence to practice at home along with learning proper breathing techniques.  Another fantastic part of the exhibit is that the asanas (yoga poses) are displayed in photographs by children both with and without disabilities.  The children with disabilities show how to do the poses in adapted ways which is a great way for kids to understand and appreciate that the poses really are not that much different for kids with disabilities.  What a great message for kids that despite your ability level, you can do yoga and participate in activity!  There is even a part of the exhibit that shows a blind snowboarder and a wheelchair cyclist.  Now that's cool!

Check out Run, Jump, Fly! at a children's museum near you in California, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, Texas and Canada through 2011.
