Ok, so I feel a little bit better that the Giants won the superbowl even though they beat out my home state Green Bay Packers to get there. Hats off to the NY Giants for a well deserved win! I also love that Pilates may have played a role in giving the Giants the edge to win. RW McQuarters, cornerback for the NY Giants, considers Pilates as crucial to his pro athlete performance and career. McQuarters trains in Rutherford, NJ with instructor Jody Domerstad.
PilatesStyle Magazine reports that McQuarters was simply looking for a way to be flexible since the team stretching he did on the field did not seem like enough. Interestingly, his previous team, the Chicago Bears, made yoga mandatory for the team as so many players suffered from pulled muscles. What is amazing is that he has not had a muscle injury since he began doing Pilates one year ago. He is quoted as saying "Using the machine to hep you hold certain positions takes you deeper into the stretch". McQuarters feels that even fifteen minutes can help to release the lactic acid in his body and soreness. He finds himself at the Pilates studio in NJ at least three nights a week after a full day of practice. He continues to do some yoga, but he personally feels that Pilates gives him better results.
McQuarters admits his toughest muscles to stretch are those tight hamstrings. Some days he feels like leaving, but he works through the pain and always ends up feeling better. Pilates has helped him stay off the training table and on the field playing. He also reports sleeping better, feeling looser, and feeling more length in his muscles.
Having a Superbowl ring on his finger will hopefully keep him motivated to continue his Pilates training and inspire others to start Pilates, too!
