It is no secret that core strength can help anyone achieve optimal performance and aid in injury prevention.  The Scientists at the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh wanted to determine just how effective core strengthening was for a group of 15 competitive cyclists.  As reported by IDEA Fitness Journal, the study showed that "core strength development might be a vital training component for cyclists".  The study authors recommend that a year-round core conditioning program would help with lower extremity alignment which is crucial for both performance and injury prevention.
