Say No to K2O

Here is a perfect example of a product pushing protein in a liquid form to help you slim down. Americans consume way too many calories via liquids like soda, energy beverages, juice and coffee drinks. I am always skeptical of beverages promising weight loss, especially when there are unnecessary calories attached. The product I want to warn you about is called Special K2O protein water. Lately, there have been an abundance of ads in both print and television for this new water by Kelloggs.
One thing consumers need to be careful about is that liquids do not seem to be nearly as satisfying as solid foods when it comes to satiety. Researchers show liquids (regardless of protein content) do not give us that same satisfied full feeling as solid foods. We do not tend to register the calories that we drink in liquids and can very easily over-consume in today's drink focused society.
The K2O water contains 50 calories and 5 grams of protein per 16 ounces. The beverage likely contains added sugar and ingredients that are hard to pronounce. Taste testers from Health Magazine commented that none of the flavors, tropical blend, strawberry kiwi or lemon twist, were very good. A case of four will run you about $6....hardly worth if for the lack of benefits. I would recommend investing your money and time elsewhere. A 6 ounce yogurt container will run you about 60 calories but give you more protein and important vitamins like B12, D and Calcium. A simple glass of milk, an egg, a half cup of cottage cheese or 3 ounce piece of chicken will also be about 60-100 calories and twice the protein.
The bottom line: stick to solids rather than liquids to get that satisfied feeling of fullness! Regular water is still the best for hydration.
