Size Matters

Do not get me started on clothing designers and the ridiculous sizing to which they label their clothes.  How can some of my friends who are normal sized, I repeat normal, not even fit into a size large at certain stores?  It drives me nuts.  Sizing clothing gives people a complex.  I finally decided to ignore the labels and just wear what looked good on me.  Who cares what someone designates as the official size.

Thankfully our friends in Spain are helping to encourage young women to achieve a healthier size, too.  Not long ago it was reported that women of a certain BMI would only be allowed to model.  The UN health experts recommended all models fall between 18.5 and 25 BMI (more on why I am not a fan of BMI later this week).  Halellujah that Madrid wanted to present a healthy model for their teens.

According to IDEA Fitness Journal, there is news that Spain's Health Ministry is helping to change our clothing size delimma.  Spain has reached a "groundbreaking agreement with the country's major women's clothing retailers to change the public's perception that dangerously thin models are fashionable".  Some stores have agreed to change their window displays so that no mannequin displays clothing smaller than a size 38 (equivalent to U.S. size 6).  The Health Ministry is also working to standardize women's sizing to reflect real women's bodies.  Amen, sister, it is about time!!
