Thursday, November 15th For most people, the holidays are mixed with excitement and
anticipation of time together with loved ones and dreaded time spent checking
everything off their holiday and year-end list.
With so much to do in so little time, try to stay present in each moment
and keep my top 11 tips hand:
- Exercise
regularly- the latest recommendation is that adults exercise 30 minutes
5-7 days. Exercise can mean a brisk
walk in the mall or even cleaning the house for holiday guests.
- Eat a
healthy breakfast every morning. You will end up eating more food and unhealthier foods later in the day if you skip breakfast.
- Try to
spend 5-15 minutes relaxing in some way every day. Whether that means relaxation exercises,
deep breathing, meditation or prayer- chose what feels good for you.
- Drink
plenty of water.
- Get
7-8 hours of sleep every night.
- Do
something for a charity, donate your time or money or lend a helping hand
to a neighbor. Helping others feels
good and gives us perspective on life.
- Make
yourself a to-do list each week to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
- Avoid
too much sugar which is hidden in just about every baked good, chocolate,
cake, pie, soda, fruit juice and candy.
Enjoy in moderation otherwise the sugar will wreak havoc on your
body.
- Avoid
excess alcohol and caffeine. Both
can interrupt sleep and prevent you from being able to fully relax.
- Plan
something fun to do each week- a trip to see holiday decorations, go ice
skating, play your favorite holiday tunes, make your favorite childhood
recipe, visit friends, see your favorite play or sit and enjoy a hot
chocolate at your local coffee shop.
- Laugh! I always watch the movie Christmas Vacation while wrapping gifts or organizing ornaments and end up laughing my stress away in the process.
Cut and paste this list and keep it as a handy reference over the next few weeks!
