I absolutely love fresh flowers. I indulged in a floral class this past winter
at Chicago’s
Botanicals studio (www.botanicals.com) to learn more about how to arrange
flowers in various vases, design centerpieces and practice hand-tied
bouquets. I definitely noticed an
improvement in my mood just having fresh flowers around for those few weeks and
make an active effort to have something colorful in the house at all
times.
Harvard researchers have now confirmed that flowers really
do have healing power. Health magazine
reporters describe a study where two different groups of people “lived with
either fresh flowers or a decorative item like a candle for about a week” and
had their emotions recorded periodically throughout the day. The individuals with fresh flowers were more
kind and compassionate towards others and had fewer feelings of negativity overall. If that is not enough to convince you to buy
some fresh flowers, consider that the positive affects of these flowers were
carried home from work where people said they felt “happier, more enthusiastic
and more energized”.
Stop and smell the roses, send some flowers to mom and while
you are at it, keep a few for yourself!
