How Do I Begin?

Where do I begin?

Your first 3-5 Pilates sessions should be private ones. This will introduce you to the Pilates apparatus, allow the instructor to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, and give you a chance to formulate personal goals. These sessions will familiarize you with the movement, language and philosophy of Pilates.

How many private Pilates sessions should I take?

Every person comes into our studio with a different background; there is not one formula for everyone. After you have taken 3-5 private sessions, it will be up to you and your instructor to decide if you are ready to move on to semi-private sessions (group classes). From our experience, beginners should take at least 3-5 private sessions before advancing to semi-privates or tower classes.

What should I wear?

You should wear clothing that is comfortable for you to work out in. Try to avoid over-sized attire that would make it difficult for the instructor to observe your body during the session. You will never wear shoes, and socks are optional.

How many times a week should I do Pilates?

2-3 times a week is a good balance. This can include private or semi-private sessions, tower and mat classes. You will be pleasantly surprised on how well you feel and look after only a few weeks. Remember, consistency is the key to change.

Can I start by taking Pilates mat classes?

Yes, as long as you do not have any major injuries. For those who have significant injuries, start by taking private sessions. This will ensure that your workout is appropriate for your specific needs.

How do I get results?

Ideally, you should work with a certified Power Pilates instructor 2-3 times a week. In addition, work independently on the mat routine your instructor has taught you. When a Power Pilates studio isn't available, you can utilize the Power Pilates home system workout program(s) at least 2-4 times per week. (The home programs can be purchased Online or at most video stores and outlets.) Start with the Beginner Mat Workout and when you are able to maintain the connection to your core, without your abdominals popping out, then you can advance to the intermediate level workout. We address lower back weakness in all programming. We also offer a post natal program.
