Brand new client and 20 year practitioner in the same mat class... What do you do to keep them both feeling challenged and successful? This class will explore how to break down and progress exercises so everyone can have an optimal class experience.

In this workshop we will discuss a few common back issues clients see us for. We will briefly define each back issue, talk about exercise movements that are contraindicated, and demonstrate and make suggestions for appropriate Pilates exercises that may safely strengthen the powerhouse and alleviate pain while improving the function of the body. The back issues we will include are Herniated/bulging discs, Scoliosis and undiagnosed Back Pain.

Romana Kryzanowska spent her life in the service of carrying on the work of Joseph Pilates. In this two-hour workshop we will explore the life of Romana Kryzanowska, through relationships with her family during her early childhood in Detroit, Michigan, to her turbulent teenage years in Puerto Rico, and budding dance career in New York City with George Balanchine. We will chronicle her discovery of the Pilates method, the work that changed her life, and her devotion to Joe and Clara Pilates. Cathy will also share some unpublished photos and describe some behind-the-scenes stories of what it took to write about Romana and her family.

This workshop will be taught in two parts. First, we will take a look at the classical exercises and we will practice touch which is "hands on"; how energy is transferred when touching someone, and why present time consciousness is key. Second, we will explore spotting which is "eyes on", where and how to place yourself in the room and in relation to the client when utilizing touch. Then, we will put it all together and discover how oppositional touch, coupled with appropriate placement in the room, will deepen your skills as a teacher.

This is when functional movement patterns become essential to their everyday lives in order to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. In this workshop, you will learn to identify the 7 functional movement patterns and relate them to Classical Pilates exercises. I will provide examples of movement sequences on the mat, reformer, and tower. Upon completion of this training, you will have the framework for a functional Pilates workout, a better understanding of your clients needs, and specific movements to avoid in order to treat the whole person.

In this workshop, we will explore common conditions associated with pregnancy and break down what to expect in each trimester. You will learn how to safely and effectively teach your clients throughout their pregnancy and best prepare them for labor, childbirth and motherhood. This workshop is applicable for comprehensively and/or mat certified teachers.

The focus of this workshop will be on the Tower Class format and progressions, so that all of your classes are safe, effective, and fun! Together we will learn/play with creative ways to organize your progressions while maintaining the flow of the workout. We will cover all levels; Introductions to Advanced progressions. The reformer is one of the most well-known and popular pieces of Pilates apparatus, and it is no surprise that there is more and more demand for reformer classes. In this workshop we will discuss strategies for teaching a one hour reformer class. Using the classical reformer sequence, this workshop will prepare you to keep your newer clients safe, challenge your more experienced clients, and make sure everyone leaves your class feeling longer and stronger!

When we hear the word "flexibility", an image of a person sitting in the splits or some other contortion-like position is often what comes to mind. But what is flexibility, really? Why should we care about it? And how can we get it? In this workshop, we will discuss the components and types of flexibility, how it relates to the body as a whole, and how we can use classical Pilates to improve flexibility - and as a result, improve the body's overall function.
